Sandy’s Keepsake Bears began with a simple desire to turn cherished memories into something that could be held onto forever. What started with creating bears from my own family’s special clothing soon became a way for me to help others honor the people and moments they never want to forget.
How It All Began
I learned to sew in school and have always loved it. After my husband passed away four years ago, sewing became especially meaningful to me. My husband worked for our town’s fire department, and I had so many of his uniform shirts, T-shirts, and polo shirts that I couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. I wanted to find a way to preserve those memories for our five boys. About three and a half years later, I finally felt ready to make something with them. I found a bear pattern I loved and started sewing. One bear quickly turned into 25, allowing me to create a special memory bear for family members. Seeing how much these bears meant to my family was incredibly special. It inspired me to continue making memory bears for other families, helping turn treasured clothing and memories into something they can hold onto forever.
